Karma Mayet, RYT
artist, Mystic, Yoga teacher
Karma Mayet first began practicing yoga as a child with her parents, and throughout her life yoga has been a sanctuary. Her guidance in asana practice emphasizes whole-body breath awareness at all times. Rooted in the transformative culture of Hatha Yoga and in her own ancestral traditions, she brings a holistic sensibility to support your unique journey, incorporating sound healing and aromatherapy. She’s the creator of the Rootsong™ system, a unique process of drawing power and sound from the root chakra to vitalize the whole self and release the resonance potential of the whole body. She’s learned that the medicine of her voice involves the condition of her full being, and she shares this with students--so that their own inner instruments become profoundly available to them. She’s had the privilege to work with and learn from so many seekers and now hopefully you—as you bring your voice and power to this creative and restorative practice. A multidisciplinary writer, performer and composer, Karma Mayet has traveled across the U.S. and internationally, working with a wide range of artists including Meshell Ndegeocello, Bill T. Jones, Toshi Reagon, Burnt Sugar, Vernon Reid, and The Roots. She’s taught improvisation as a tool for transformation in community advocacy and arts education for over 20 years, at the historic Living Stage (Arena Stage), Woolly Mammoth Theatre, and The Cooper Union. In the New York theater, she’s appeared extensively Off Broadway, performing on stages including The Public Theater, New Dramatists, and The Joyce. She is currently at work on her new album, entitled Rootwoman. Learn more about Karma at Rootsong.net
Shelley Nicole, RYT
ARTIST/HEALER/YOGA TEACHER
Vocalist, songwriter, bassist, professional journalist, Reiki Master, crystal energy healer and yoga instructor, Shelley Nicole began her yoga journey after being told that nothing but medication would ease her pain associated with a hiatal hernia. After some deductive reasoning, yoga seemed to Shelley like the logical, non-pharmaceutical answer to alleviate the pain and associated symptoms and she was correct. That was over 10 years ago and now Shelley is a Kripalu certified yoga instructor and a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association. Shelley is also a Reiki Master trained in the Usui System of Natural Healing. In her healing practice she combines the elements of touch, sound and smell to create Rock ‘n Reiki™, an innovative powerful healing experience that includes aromatherapy, crystals and sound/breath energy to heal the mind and body of energetic blockages.

Shelley considers music part of her healing practice. As the leader of her band Shelley Nicole’s blaKbüshe, and a featured member of the bands the Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, Rebellum and Soul Sangha, her lyrics and style are a powerful force. She brings this same vibrant energy to her yoga students and Reiki clients. Founder of the wellness practice Sovereign Hands, Shelley has created personal sessions called Yoga for Unlocking Your Inner Creative™ designed specifically for creatives who are facing blocks or those who would like to open the channels to reignite their creative passions. She also released Gentle Yoga Vol. 1, a yoga video series with thematproject.com specifically for beginners and seniors, currently receiving rave reviews.
